Sharon Eklund grew up attending and being confirmed in the Episcopalian church in southwest suburban Chicago. She joined the United Church of Los Alamos (affiliated with PC[USA]) several years after she moved to Northern New Mexico in 1971. Her first job here was as park ranger in Bandelier National Monument, but she went on to become first an English teacher in Los Alamos Schools, then later earned an MBA and began her 23-year career with the University of California—the first 15 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory and the last 8 at the UC Office of the President in Oakland, California. During her years in Northern California, she served both as co-chair of the Deacons and as an Elder at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Sharon is currently serving First Presbyterian Church as co-chair of the Deacons (this is her fourth year as a Deacon) and as chair of the Personnel Committee.
