This year, Palm Sunday is unique.

Each of us will be participating from a different vantage point.

We will not be together in body, joining in our annual tradition of the Procession to the Plaza, but we will be together in spirit.

To help celebrate Palm Sunday 2020, we have collected photos and videos from previous Palm Sundays. They document our years of Palm Sunday processions.

Follow us as we make a virtual journey, remembering Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem at the beginning of the week whose events are the foundation of Christianity.

Ethel and Maurice Trimmer were members of the Contemporary Worship group which started the tradition of a Palm Sunday procession over 40 years ago. Rev. Jim Brown was the pastor then.

In the early years the FPC procession went around the church building and later around the whole block. A burro was a part of the procession for many years. A bagpiper came to lead the procession in 1980 (according to the worship bulletin for Palm Sunday that year). Ethel recounted that the burro went crazy when the piper started playing. The bagpiper was sent to the back of the procession and all went well after that.

During the time that Sheila Gustafson was pastor, the procession was expanded to include Holy Faith and the Cathedral, each processing to the Plaza from their church, meeting and having a joint worship service on the Plaza. Sometimes a brass ensemble has marched in the procession. A banner to head the procession from FPC was made by Carol Fallis and can be found in the third floor lobby.
