Want to get outside while doing something GREAT for New Mexico? Join us on Nov 5 for a guided hiking tour & community-wide clean-up of the Caja del Rio. Learn about efforts to protect the Caja and meet fellow stewards.

Community efforts are underway to protect this ecologically rich and culturally significant landscape. Home to a variety of unique plant and animal species, the Caja del Rio is one of the most ecologically rich habitats in North America. The Caja is also an area of profound cultural and historical significance, boasting over 4,400 petroglyphs that tells the story of our Native American and Spanish ancestors.

Join us for a moderate and interactive hike of the La Cieneguilla Petroglyph site as we delve into the history of this sacred land and explore the history of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro and the iconic Route 66. This guided hike is a perfect introduction to the Caja del Rio and will be followed by a public clean-up where we can come together to appreciate the beauty of our New Mexico landscapes.

Event Logistics:

Saturday, November 5th
Moderate hike begins at 8:45am
(Meet at the La Cieneguilla petroglyphs  parking lot off Hwy 56)
674 Paseo Real, Santa Fe, NM 87507

11:30am – 2:30pm – Public clean-up

No RSVP necessary – just bring your own sunscreen/water for the hike and some work gloves for the clean-up. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather.
