Learning to Be a Helper

Children’s Program, Oct 20, 8:30 & 11am

Children who grow up being invited to help other and learning to work together develop important life skills. The children will learn the story of Boaz, Ruth, and Naomi, which is rich with examples of this type of help and kindness.

The children’s program begins in the worship services: 8:30 in Pope Hall and 11:00 in the sanctuary. After receiving a blessing, the children leave for their activities. For more information about our children’s program, contact Jen Black.

The Lesson: Where would we be in life without a helper?

In some ways, that sums up the story of Boaz, Ruth and Naomi (Ruth 2:1–4, 14–23; 4:13–22). When Ruth and Naomi needed grain, Ruth said, “Let me see if I can find someone who will let me pick up the grain left in the fields by the harvest workers.” She came to the field of Boaz, a relative of Naomi’s deceased husband, Elimelech.

Boaz was kind and granted Ruth special privileges to glean in his field for the whole harvest time.

In the story of Boaz, Ruth, and Naomi children can identify the ways that these characters exhibited the qualities of a helper. This story helps children understand the ways that God wants us to live in this world.
