Ukulele Group Recruiting

Meets Tuesdays, 5:30pm

The church Tuesday evening ukulele group is welcoming new members, and singers since we also sing while strumming! You’ll either need a ukulele and the ability to strum a few basic chords (three is plenty) or be prepared to sing along or just observe.

Watch Night Service

Worship, Dec 31, 5:30pm

VIDEO. We welcome Mr. Little V. West, Esq., to the pulpit to lead our Watch Night Service on New Year’s Eve at 5:30 pm. Watch Night has long been a sacred time of reflection and anticipation, dating back to December 31, 1862, when enslaved people gathered in hope on the eve of the Emancipation Proclamation. In that same spirit, we will honor the year past while looking faithfully toward the future.

VIDEO. This Sunday Janis Chitwood weaves together the story of Mary and Joseph fleeing to Egypt because of the terror of Herod (Matthew 2:13-23) and Isaiah’s reminders of the gracious deeds of the Lord who is with us in all things (Isaiah 63: 1-7) even when Israel is in exile.

As part of our beloved annual tradition, we will prepare more than 200 farolitos in the days leading up to Christmas, decorate the church on Christmas Eve afternoon, and light the candles for the Christmas Eve service.

What does it mean to be faithful to our values in today’s world? What role should our church play in advocating for policies that support what we believe are the teachings of Jesus? To attempt to answer these questions, we held a church-wide discussion over lunch. For those not able to attend we held another discussion via Zoom on Monday evening, December 8th. People were invited to bring their thoughts, concerns, fears, and convictions.

Exploring Joy

This Sunday they will learn that joy is more than a feeling, that it is rooted in hope, peace, and love, they will begin to recognize the deeper joy that comes from being a disciple of Christ.

We are proud to host the Santa Fe Women’s Ensemble’s concert and a repertory that promises to offer music that both stirs and calms, moving us forward with courage and joy. Concerts are in our sanctuary on Saturday December 13th at 3pm and on Sunday December 14th at 3pm.

Alternative Worship Service, Dec 10

VIDEO. A second Alternative Worship Service was held at Second Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque on December 10th. This moving service features Rory Cooney’s “Canticle of the Turning.” The lyrics are based on the Magnificat, Mary’s song of praise when she learns that she will give birth to Jesus, the baby who will usher in a time of peace. Angel Tree Giving

As done in years past, we are once again creating an Angel Tree to support children and families through the Santa Fe Youth Shelter.  Stop by the display in the lobby and find out how to be an Angel to a child in need.

Sharing Our Faith

Last year and again this year our Prayer Shawl group has made numerous scarves to be given to the day laborers who congregate in the park across from Guadalupe church hoping to be hired for work. Our Prayer Shawl group, which has been known for their beautiful shawls for those in our congregation in need of comfort, are once again finding a way to share our faith with the Santa Fe community.

The Millicent Rogers Museum (Taos) opens an exhibit of Navajo quilter Susan Hudson on Nov 15 (reception, 5-7pm). Our church has donated supplies to Susan’s Navajo Quilt Project, which teaches quilting and sewing to Navajo students. Come view Susan’s powerful figural quilts that chronicle Navajo history alongside vibrant works by others in her program.

All Saints Day

VIDEO. As is our tradition, our All Saints’ Day worship service is devoted to remembering those loved ones who have passed away since the last All Saints’ Day. This year, our choir sings a portion of “Mozart’s Requiem in d minor” throughout the service. During the final hymn “For All the Saints,” the names of those to be remembered will be read between verses.

The federal shutdown, deportation of the breadwinners from immigrant families, and the pending absence of SNAP have left many hungry. Tierra Nueva Couseling Center is asking you to recycle your plastic bottle caps and lids to make beautiful park benches. Drop them off in our church lobby; keep them out of Santa Fe landfills by upcycling them into benches to serve the Center’s therapists, clients, and the entire community.

Due to a scheduling conflict, November’s Parents Night Out will take place on November 8th. Just drop off your children in Pope Hall at 5:30. An RSVP is required no later than Nov 7th.
