Virtual Meeting, Jun 15, 3pm MT
The humanitarian crisis in Cuba continues to worsen. Church partners report severe shortages of medicines, medical supplies, fuel, and food that are affecting communities across the island. Hospitals struggle to obtain essential supplies, blackouts regularly disrupt daily life, and many families are finding it increasingly difficult to meet basic needs. For some, these shortages have become a matter of life and death.
The U.S. embargo continues to exact a heavy toll on the Cuban people, and recent sanctions imposed by the Trump administration are worsening an already severe crisis. The prospect of military action threatens to compound an already devastating humanitarian situation.
At a time when the stakes are so high for the Cuban people, Congress needs to hear from constituents who support policies that promote peace and help alleviate suffering.
During this action hour, participants will call their Senators and Representatives in support of the Cuba War Powers Resolutions and the U.S.-Cuba Trade Act. We will provide a brief update on the current humanitarian and political situation in Cuba, explain the legislation, and offer a short advocacy training and call script.
Congress has an important role to play in shaping U.S. policy toward Cuba. Join us to urge policies that promote peace and help address the humanitarian crisis facing the Cuban people.
Sponsored by Presbyterian Church (USA), Office of Public Witness; The United Methodist Church – General Board of Church and Society; United Church of Christ; Friends Committee on National Legislation; Alliance of Baptists; Evangelical Lutheran Church of America; The Episcopal Church; and Mennonite Central Committee.
Our Sister Church in Cuba
For many years, we have had a strong connection with Sagua La Grande Presbyterian Church, our sister church in Cuba. This past year we have been sending food, and more recently we are attempting to secure a solar panel for them. We will continue to work through the various systems to see what we can do to help.
If you are interested in helping, join us at this meeting and perhaps we can gain some insights on how to work through the barriers and get our Cuban siblings the support they need.
