Educating, Engaging & Equipping Spiritual Leaders
Based out of First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe, EarthKeepers 360 focuses on supporting our mission of creation care and environmental stewardship as well as equipping spiritual leaders, churches, and faith communities nationally and internationally with the tools needed to effectively engage modern environmental issues.
At the congregational and governing body level, EarthKeepers 360 provides sermons and educational presentations covering a diverse array of topics ranging from the biblical and theological teachings of creation care, the spirituality of wilderness and wildlife to how current public policies impact responsible stewardship of land, water, and wildlife. With a focus on spiritual reflection, education, public events and advocacy, the EarthKeepers 360’s Weekly Reflection goes out to hundreds of congregations nationally and internationally.
Through EarthKeepers360 Climate Smart Congregations program, EarthKeepers 360 helps churches and faith communities conduct energy audits, examines opportunities for energy savings and evaluates ways to reduce waste and engage in dynamic recycling programs within congregations and their affiliated schools. At First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe, EarthKeepers 360 has helped conduct a building-wide energy and water audit, installed various energy saving light fixtures, tinted the windows of the Childhood Development Center, created a composting and recycling program as well as developed various gardening programs that benefit local wildlife as well as those in need.
In working with churches and congregations, EarthKeepers 360 helps create on the ground educational opportunities, community organizing and strategic civic engagement, EarthKeepers 360 unites spiritual leaders from various faith traditions in working together to shape and live into a new earth ethic focused on:
- Reconnecting people with land, water and wildlife while building true community with creation and one another;
- Highlighting the important intersection between social justice and the environment;
- Bridging science and religion;
- Providing reliable information about key environmental issues and identifying effective ways to move from information to transformation;
- Creating respectful dialogue about how different cultures, faiths and spiritual traditions view and relate to various environmental issues;
- Thinking critically and reflecting on sacred texts, including those that are comforting and challenging;
- Providing helpful resources for worship, liturgy and spiritual growth
Through listening, building trust, and developing long-term sustainable relationships, EarthKeepers 360 equips and engages spiritual leaders so they can make a difference in their communities and all over the world. Over the years, EarthKeepers 360 has been instrumental in working to protect Bears Ears National Monument in Utah, Chaco Canyon National Historic Park in New Mexico, Oak Flat in Arizona, Okefenokee swamp in Georgia, Gladys E. Douglas Preserve in Florida, Wildlife Corridors in New Mexico and Colorado, the Gila River and the Caja del Rio in New Mexico.
