Second Chances

This week, we will take a look at John 21:1-19. This lesson provides a hopeful reminder that Jesus promises second chances when we make mistakes. God can use our mistakes and promises to grant us grace when we aren’t at our very best. We recognize that we will never be perfect all the time, but the story of Peter reminds us that we don’t have to.

On Wednesday, May 14, at 6pm in Pope Hall, Peter Nasir, General Secretary of the East Jerusalem YMCA, and Muhanad Al Qaisi, Director of the East Jerusalem YMCA / YWCA Joint Advocacy Initiative (JAI), join us to talk about the Olive Tree Campaign, which uses trees as tools for education and advocacy.

Youth Concert for CASA First

Local youth have been rehearsing, putting their musical talents together to perform in a concert to benefit CASA First. Many are members of the Santa Fe Symphony Youth Symphonies, and they will be performing the music of Saint Saëns, Ravel, Glass, Satie, Elgar and Queen, on strings, guitar, vocals, and a quartet. Support these talented youth and CASA First.
Doubt Upon the Mountain

The Seven Mile Walk

Some stayed locked in their rooms, scared and depressed, while two walked the seven-mile road from Jerusalem to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-27). Our Call to Care for the Earth

In Genesis 1, God creatively crafts all of creation including humans, who are not only designed in the image of God but are also called to be stewards of Earth and creation. Interfaith Community at Pete’s Place
Extend your Easter faith and love by helping prepare and serve food to residents of the Interfaith Community Shelter at Pete’s Place on Cerrillos Road. It is one of the largest local missions we support with our money and our time. Currently, we need volunteers for the evening of April 23rd.
Pre-Triennium Retreat

All those who have registered to go to the annual youth Triennium (July 27-31 in Louisville), should try to attend a pre-Triennium retreat if at all possible. On Maundy Thursday, we gather in the sanctuary for a hymn sing at 5pm with Linda Raney and stay for a Tenebrae worship service with Pastor Harry at 5:30. The worship service choir anthem will be “Were You There?” (Arr. by Bob Chilcott). Join us for this time of deep reflection in a service of gradually diminishing light.

Every third Sunday of the month new prayer shawls are blessed at each service. Our Ministry is to knit shawls for people who need them, i.e., for illness, surgery, new babies, deaths in the family. If you would like a shawl, please let Tillie Perkins know by email or contact our church office.

Embracing Love

This Sunday, both our children and youth will take a look at God’s greatest commandment (Matthew 22:34-40) and how it challenges us to embrace and show love. Jesus proclaimed that the most important thing you can do is to love. Love God, love yourself and all the people around you. After receiving a blessing in the worship services, the children and youth leave for their programs.

Nationally-known Composer and Conductor Brandon Boyd leads the 7th Annual FebFest Choral Workshop celebrating African American sacred music Saturday, Feb 8 at United Church of Santa Fe. Annual Congregational Meeting

Our Food Fun and Fellowship team is serving Italian this month—traditional lasagne with a vegetarian option, and Italian chopped salad with garlic bread. He has extensive experience in wildland firefighting, forestry techniques, and erosion mitigation.
