Each September our church, along with Presbyterian churches around the world, give to the Peace and Global Witness offering. Who benefits from it? How, as Christians, can we help to bring about peace and reconciliation around the world?
The national church gives two examples of how this offering was used last year. In Madagascar Rev. Helivao serves as director of ministry to marginalized people. He leads young people away from the scourge of human trafficking and works toward stopping the exploitation of children in various situations. In the South Pacific climate change has forced people from their homelands because of the rise in the level of the ocean. On the island of Tuvalu 45% of of its residents have been displaced. Addressing economic and food insecurity needs and offering emotional support has been made possible through this special offering.
Twenty-five per cent is retained by our congregation, 25% goes to mid-councils such as our Presbytery and 50% goes to the Presbyterian Mission Agency for global witness. This offering will be collected the last two Sundays in September so please give generously.
