The Sun Mountain Saxaphone Quintet starts our weekend with a lively concert featuring music by Mozart, Dousa, Cohen and Wiedoeft/Mills. Doors to the sanctuary open at 5:15pm and the concert begins at 5:30pm. The concert is free with donations accepted.

The Artists
Cesario Quintana, soprano saxophone, is a retired Director of the New Mexico Property Tax Division, started playing saxophone in elementary school and continued through high school. He attended New Mexico State University on a music scholarship, studying under Dr. Charles West. He performs with the Con Brio Saxophone Quartet, High Desert Winds wind ensemble, and the Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band.
Todd Miller, alto saxophone, is a retired music educator and woodwind player, who studied flute performance at California State University, Northridge, and later earned his BA in music education in 1987. He began his teaching career through an internship at CSU Long Beach while teaching at Warren High School and West Middle School. After seven years, he transferred to Edgewood Middle School in West Covina, where he taught concert,
jazz, and marching bands. Todd returned to Downey in 2008 and retired after a 34-year teaching career. He now lives in Santa Fe with his husband Alvin and their pets. Todd remains proud of his students, many of whom have gone on to become band directors and professional musicians. In Santa Fe, he performs with local ensembles and enjoys playing with various ensembles.
David Dennison, tenor saxophone, has retired from a 37-year engineering career at various national laboratories and companies. Starting with the clarinet at age 8, he later picked up the alto and tenor saxophones and played in high school and university bands. After moving to Santa Fe in 1996 and taking a 25-year break from playing music, he resumed his musical activities. He now plays clarinet, alto saxophone, and tenor saxophone with community volunteer groups.
Jean Coughlan, baritone saxophone, is a retired band director and music educator who worked in the Santa Fe Public Schools for over 25 years. She began playing saxophone in elementary school and continues to this day. She received a BA in Music Performance on saxophone form the College of St. Catherine in S.t Paul, MN in 1982 and a BS in Music Education with band emphasis from the University of Minnesota, Mankato, MN in 1987. She started her teaching career in Minnesota and moved to Santa Fe in 1994. She has experience teaching high school band, junior high band, elementary band, and elementary general music. She is currently a member of the Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band and conducts the Con Brio Saxophone Quartet.
Peggy Abbott, piano, is a piano teacher based in Santa Fe. She holds a BA in piano performance from the University of Illinois. Peggy has performed chamber music both domestically and internationally. She has premiered works by Mila Murry and Edith Hathaway. In the 1980s and 1990s, she performed duo-piano and piano duet literature at St John’s College with Patrice Williams. Currently, she performs pieces for piano and saxophone quartet.
Dr. Jan Gaynor, Music Coach, possesses BA and MA degrees in Musical Performance on Trombone from San Francisco State University, along with lifetime teaching credentials in music from the State of California and New Mexico. Additionally, Dr. Gaynor holds Administrative Credentials in both states. She earned her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Instructional Design, from the University of San Francisco. Prior to her retirement from California public schools, Dr. Gaynor dedicated over 30 years as a music teacher, high school administrator, and part-time college and university instructor. During this time, she was actively involved with local community theater companies, serving as musical director and conductor for more than 35 musical productions as well as co-principal trombonist with the Peninsula Symphony. Since relocating to Santa Fe in 2006, Dr. Gaynor has been engaged as a teacher, student and new teacher mentor, performer, conductor, adjudicator, and clinician.
