Friday, September 8, TGIF features Haewon Yang, who has been recognized for her colorful and sensitive performances. She will be playing music by Florence Price, Arthur Lourie, Claude Debussy, and Harry Bulow. Doors to the sanctuary open at 5:15pm, and the concert begins at 5:30pm.
The concert is free with a free-will offering taken.

Korean-Canadian pianist Dr. Haewon Yang has been recognized for her colorful and sensitive performances. As an avid performer and collaborative musician, she is sought after for her flexibility across different genres and carefully studied interpretations. She has won top prizes in the Shean Piano Competition, the Canadian Music Competition, the Indiana University Concerto Competition and the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition.
Haewon has been a guest artist at the Yemel Philharmonic Society in Toronto, Canada, Concordia Wilmington Concert Series in Wilmington, DE, the Indiana Landmarks Center in Indianapolis, IN, and the Purdue University Inaugural Concert in West Lafayette, IN. Her doctoral research explored compositions by child composers, including the works of the prodigious composer and pianist Emile Naoumoff. Through her performances, Haewon is invested in discovering and promoting little-known compositions.
Haewon holds degrees from the University of Toronto and Indiana University, and her students have ranged from pre-college to collegiate students. Haewon has mentored and taught students as a faculty member at the Indiana University Young Pianist Program and Indiana University East. She is currently teaching at University of New Mexico–Los Alamos, while active as a teacher, adjudicator, and performer in Santa Fe, New Mexico. See www.haewonyang.com.
