Lee and Yang

Let your cares float away as you listen to Jeong Hoon Lee, flute, and Haewon Yang, piano, at our Friday concert. They will play music for us by Sangjin Kim and Cesar Franck. Doors to the sanctuary open at 5:15pm and the concert begins at 5:30pm. The concert is free with donations accepted.

The Artists

Jeong Hoon Lee

Dr. Jeong Hoon Lee, a native of South Korea, has established himself as a respected and esteemed figure in the realm of music performance and education within the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of North Texas, where he was a Teaching Fellow under the mentorship of Mary Karen Clardy. His scholarly contribution includes the published research paper, “Texu Kim’s Le Temps Déformé for Solo Flute, Percussion, and Strings: Background and Analysis.” He also earned his Master’s degree and Performer Diploma from Indiana University at Bloomington and his Bachelor’s degree with Academic Honors from Mokwon University in Daejeon, South Korea.

His prodigious talent was recognized early on when he was selected to participate in the masterclasses with luminaries like Jasmine Choi, Susan Milan, Jeffrey Khaner, Jeanne Baxstresser, and Paul Edmund-Davies. He was also declared the Most Distinguished Musician Award from the IBLA International Competition in Italy. His accolades also include the first-prize winner of both the American Protégé International Competition and the Golden Classical International Music Competition. His impressive talent led to a winner’s concert at the esteemed Carnegie Hall and solo recital at the Lincoln Center in New York.

Additionally, Dr. Lee began his illustrious career as a chamber musician with the Absolute Orchestra, under the direction of world-renowned cellist and conductor, Hanna Chang. He has maintained an active presence in chamber music, serving as Principal Flute of the Dallas Asian Winds and as a member of the Dallas MusiK Society.

Complementing his stellar performance career, Dr. Lee is also a dedicated educator as an Adjunct Faculty of Flute at the University of North Texas. Renowned for his expertise, he has been invited to serve as an Adjunct Faculty at Dallas College at Northlake Campus and to have masterclasses at Southeastern Oklahoma University. He also held the honor of appearing as a guest artist at Tarrant County College.

Haewon Yang

Hailed as an “expressive, intelligent, and meticulous performer,” Korean born, Canadian-American pianist Haewon Yang is sought after for her flexibility across different genres and carefully studied interpretations of pianistic repertoire.

Working closely alongside composers, she has given world premieres and presented many new works to audiences across North America. Her debut album will be released in 2025 through PARMA recordings, which will feature the complete solo piano repertoire of American composer Harry Bulow.

In recent seasons, Haewon has been invited to perform with the Santa Fe Community Orchestra, the Southwest Arts Recital Series in Santa Fe, NM, the Tippecanoe Chamber Music Festival in West Lafayette, IN, and guest artist recitals at Purdue University, Butler University, Taylor University, Earlham College, Indiana University East, and Franklin College.

After her undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, Haewon went on to complete graduate degrees from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, finishing with a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance and Literature (Minor in Music Education). She attributes the entirety of her pianistic formation and musical training to her teachers Paulette Price, Marietta Orlov, and Arnaldo Cohen.

Teaching is an equal passion as performing for Haewon, and she has previously taught at Indiana University East and the Young Pianist Program at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She teaches music courses at the University of New Mexico–Los Alamos campus and balances her time between a performing career and her private studio in Los Alamos. (www.Haewonyang.com)
