Our Call to Care for the Earth

Children & Youth, Apr 27, 8:30 & 11am

In Genesis 1, God creatively crafts all of creation including humans, who are not only designed in the image of God but are also called to be stewards of Earth and creation. We see that God’s creation is suffering but what do we do to live into our call? After receiving a blessing in the services, children and youth leave for their activities for Earth Day.

Often, it is not a lack of conviction that causes us to fail to act, but rather a sense of powerlessness. How can we make a difference? How can we hope to impact the problems we see in our everyday lives?

Children’s Sunday School

This week we will revisit the story of creation in Genesis 1 along with other scriptures on nature and how they help guide how we should live Earth Day, every day. We will take a look at how little hands can carry out large plans to make a difference that everyone will notice.

Youth Bible Study

We have a special responsibility to care for our planet and to take action to protect it. This Sunday, we will explore why Earth Day is important for Christians and why we should care about environmental stewardship. We’ll look at some key scriptures from the Bible (Genesis 1:26-28, Psalm 24:1-2, Romans 8:19-22, Revelation 11:18) that relate to ecological care, and we’ll learn about some practical ways that we can live more sustainably.
