Take Faithful Action for Cuba

Support Cuba War Powers Resolution

The Cuba War Powers Resolution, which surfaced about two months ago, is out of committee now and will go to the floor of the Senate for a vote this week — as soon as Tuesday, August 4th. Now that it is live, let’s make a real effort to be part of the solution. Our Senators need to hear our voices NOW!

In June, a number of us attended the Cuban Faith Action Hour. Participants were urged to call their Senators and Representatives in support of the Cuba War Powers Resolutions and the U.S.-Cuba Trade Act. Read more and view video. The humanitarian crisis in Cuba continues to worsen. The U.S. embargo continues to exact a heavy toll on the Cuban people, and recent sanctions imposed by the Trump administration are worsening an already severe crisis. The prospect of military action threatens to compound an already devastating humanitarian situation.

Call Your Senators Now

Call Senator Martin Heinrich and Senator Ben Ray Luján.

You can see the CALL SCRIPT and legislative information here. This also includes language on the US-Cuba Trade Act, which you can include or not – the vote this week will be on the War Powers Resolution.

And if you wanted to review how to make calls, you can view the recording of the action hour and the slide deck. In the slide deck you can also find various denominations and organizations’ action alert to email your Senators (on the 25th slide).

The Cuba Faith Action Hour was sponsored by Presbyterian Church (USA), Office of Public Witness; The United Methodist Church – General Board of Church and Society; United Church of Christ; Friends Committee on National Legislation; Alliance of Baptists; Evangelical Lutheran Church of America; The Episcopal Church; and Mennonite Central Committee.
