Children & Youth, Mar 23, 8:30 & 11am
Throughout his journey to Jerusalem, Jesus has been teaching about the Kingdom of God. As we read Luke 13:1-9, we encounter the fig tree parable and we find an image of God’s patience and hopefulness as he prepares his Kingdom. After receiving a blessing in the worship services, the children and youth leave to continue their Journey Through Lent.
God calls us to repent, and it is within his power to punish us for our failure, and yet God is merciful. Not only does God refuse to abandon us, he chooses to tend to us so that we may yet bear the fruit he desires from us.
Children’s Sunday School
This week we will read from Luke 13:1-9 and take a look, taste and feel for the parable of the fig tree. Our kids may be unfamiliar with fig trees, but they might know about the growth of spring flowers. Perhaps they have looked at a dry, brown flower bulb and wondered how this produces the colorful tulip or daffodil blossom that we expect to bloom in the spring. Perhaps they’ve even struggled to have the patience and hope that is required to plant flower bulbs in October. This weekend we will explore the patience, hope and grace God has for us.
Youth Bible Study
Rendon Room
Youth, don’t forget to bring your bible as we will begin our Lenten Journal Journey through the book of Mark. The Youth will be asked to think about what they can do to honor the Lenten season, and how they may start new practices during this 40 days or reflection. How will you pray, reflect, serve others and give thanks? Each day (Monday through Saturday) our youth will have a different reading from the book of Mark to read and reflect on. Our Sunday Bible Study discussions will focus on the week’s reading.
Readings that we will discuss this Sunday:
- March 17: Mark 6:7-29
- March 18: Mark 6:30-44
- March 19: Mark 6:45-56
- March 20: Mark 7:1-23
- March 21: Mark 7:24-37
