Compassion Kits

A few Sundays ago, our youth helped create children compassion kits for immigrant children and families living in shelters at the U.S./Mexico border. Your generous donations made possible 78 children kits, 50 adult kits and 400 pounds of food, which have now been delivered.

Each of the children compassion kits included; snacks, stuffed animals, personal hygiene supplies, coloring books, crayons and toys.

Our compassion kits and supplies gathered from other churches in New Mexico were taken to El Paso last weekend by Jack and Cheryl Ferrell from Las Placitas Presbyterian Church and distributed to the various shelters in El Paso and the 20 shelters in Juarez, Mexico.  Thanks to your generosity, they were able to transfer over 6,000 pounds of much-needed food, Dignity Kits, diapers, hygiene products, and clothing.

Our Donations Included:

  • 78 children compassion kits
  • 50 adult compassion kits
  • 100 pounds of rice
  • 100 pounds of beans

The El Paso Team

The magnitude of the humanitarian crisis at the US-Mexico border over the past several years was difficult to comprehend let alone try to put together some sort of realistic response to meet the human needs of those stuck at the border.  It seemed the need was always greater than our ability to meet it.  On this trip, Jack and Cheryl noticed a drop in numbers of asylum seekers in shelters and they believe that this drop is due to the fact that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials in El Paso have been processing approximately 150 individuals every day since May 12th, which is more than twice the number they were processing in the prior four months. Perhaps we are seeing the situation starting to improve to the point where we can realistically come closer to meeting the humanitarian needs of our brothers and sisters who are seeking to enter our country legally.  We pray that is the case.

In the future, the focus of the Dignity Mission may change.  We’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, there is still much we can do to bring dignity and hope to those who continue to flee their home countries in search of safety and more secure lives for themselves and their families.  Shelters on both sides of the border still have needs, and we will continue our efforts to support them.
