Faith Leading to Action

Adult Ed, Apr 21, 9:45am

VIDEO. Michael Stewart, environmental activist and founder of LightHawk, shares news of quite a number of solutions that are proven and hold immense promise in fighting climate change. Hear his optimistic and challenging message in our second adult ed class in our Earth Day series.

Michael believes that faith leads to action and calls us to take action, in ways both “small” and personal, and to use our influence to create action in larger arenas of government and industry.  Although we have dug ourselves into a deep hole, not only for humans but for the life of the planet, he believes we are built to tackle enormous challenges with heroism and wisdom, source of our greatest reward and satisfaction.

In the 1970s Michael founded LightHawk, a non-profit corporation flying missions for environmental organizations. His unique work to protect and restore the natural environment has been honored by the governments of Costa Rica, Belize and British Columbia. Michael has initiated and led successful campaigns to protect threatened forests, clean up toxic air pollution and establish protected nature reserves. Accounts of his work have been published in Time magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian and more. Read more about LightHawk in an article in the Christian Science Monitor: Aerial crusaders. One picture is worth a thousand-page environmental impact statement; so a group of volunteer pilots is helping to shape public opinion by showing legislators startling bird’s-eye views of pollution damage
