As an inclusive congregation, FPC will again join the Santa Fe Gay Pride Parade on Saturday, June 29th. The parade leaves the Lamy building at 10:30am and ends at the Plaza, which will be packed with lively entertainment. Judy and Dick Crawford will check our group in, so meet them at 10am at the Lamy Building parking lot across from the Capitol. Look for FPC banners. All are welcome!
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in the parade and festivities. Rainbow-colored apparel is encouraged. Watch this space for details of where and what time we will meet before the parade. If you want to participate or have questions, contact Judy Crawford.
First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe is building the beloved community through faith in action, love, compassion, and justice for our community and the world. One of the ways that we do that is through being present for each other and celebrating important milestones such as Juneteenth, which Madeleine Wright led us in commemorating this past Sunday. And the Pride Parade gives us an opportunity to be present for our brothers and sisters in the LGBTQ+ community.
The first Gay Pride Parade was held on June 28, 1970, on the one year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in New York City. Thousands of people gathered in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York to commemorate Stonewall and demonstrate for equal rights—a movement that spread throughout the country. Today, Gay Pride month festivities are scheduled each June in towns large and small celebrating advancements won and drawing attention to advocacy still needed to assure equal rights for our brothers and sisters in the LGBTQ+ community.
Once again, we will join the Santa Fe Gay Pride Parade on Saturday, June 29th. So beloved members of the congregation, please show up for this festive outpouring of love in, and for, our community!
