Pop-Up Event, Patio, Aug 23, 10am-1pm
We are conducting a Navajo Quilting Pop-Up on Aug 23, 10am-1pm, to collect sewing equipment, materials, and fabric for Navajo quilters to use to make quilts for needy elders in their communities. Our collection area for cars passing by will be on the Grant Ave patio. We will also accept finished quilts and checks to FPC for “Navajo Quilting Project.”
There are a number of sewing and quilting groups in the Navajo Nation under the supervision of Susan Hudson, an award-winning Dine artist and quilter, who make and distribute warm quilts for their communities.
For donations made earlier than August 23rd, please bring clean fabric (minimum of 1/4 yard), thread, rulers, quilt batting, ribbons, and functional new or used sewing machines to the church and place them in the coat close. A box will be there and marked for your smaller donations. This is a perfect opportunity for you quilters and crafters to destash!
We also welcome monetary donations to be used to purchase additional items for the Navajo quilters. To make a monetary donation, bring or mail a check to our church with “Navajo Quilt Project” in the memo line, or make a donation in our online special donation page, specifying “Navajo Quilt Project.”
On Saturday, August 23, from 10:00 am–1:00 pm, you can drop off any of the requested items at the pop-up event on the church patio on Grant Avenue. If you miss this event, we will continue to collect items at the church until September.
Our last collection in 2023 was such a success it required two trucks to take the items to the Sheep Springs Chapter House on the Navajo Nation. Help us make this one just as good.
