Concert, 3pm, Sanctuary

Join prize winning Brazilian guitarist Roberto Capocchi and conductor and arts educator Oliver Prezant for a fun and enjoyable exploration of the Romantic-era music of Francisco Tárrega, one of the greatest composers for guitar in the Spanish tradition.

From the trembling phrases of Recuerdos de la Alhambra (Memories of the Alhambra) to the tender melodies of Lagrima (Teardrop), Tárrega’s music paints an intimate portrait of late-nineteenth century musical life in Spain. During the program, conductor and arts educator Oliver Prezant will take you inside the music, and prize winning guitarist Roberto Capocchi will demonstrate the way in which touch, timbre, and texture create the nuance and expression that is characteristic of this colorful, expressive music. Performers explore several pieces by Tárrega, and you’ll have the opportunity to share feelings and impressions with one another and the musicians along the way. You’ll hear a full performance of the music at the end of the program.

General Admission: $25 / Students with ID: $10.
