Piano Music in the Russian Tradition

Linda Mack, a native of the Chicago area, received her doctoral degree from the University of Illinois. As Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music at Fort Lewis College, her teaching responsibilities include choirs, choral methods, music history, and voice. The Fort Lewis College Choirs have made several appearances at the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference and the Chamber Choir has performed at Carnegie Hall.

In addition to her work at Fort Lewis College and with the Durango Choral Society, Dr. Mack served as Music Director and Conductor of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, a nationally renowned, 20-voice professional choir. Dr. Mack is active as a frequent guest conductor, clinician, soloist and adjudicator throughout the region. She has conducted large festival choirs in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Oklahoma. Her recent guest conducting appearances have included performances with the Animas Music Festival, the Showcase Concert Series, San Juan Symphony, and the Corsi Internazionali Di Musica Festival in Urbino, Italy.

In 2000, she was one of six conductors who led the Vancouver Chamber Choir as part of the National Conductors’ Symposium. In January 2003, she was selected to conduct as part of a master class with choir and orchestra at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Peter Schreier. She has also served as chorus master for major works performed by the Music in the Mountains Festival, the San Juan Symphony, and the Berkshire Choral Festival. In November 2003, she conducted two world premieres for choir and percussion by composers from Sweden and the United States at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.

Dr. Mack has presented clinics for the Colorado Music Educators Association and the Colorado Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association on the topic of vocal health in the choral rehearsal, repertoire selection and contest preparation, and has published articles on these topics. She is an active member of Chorus America, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Colorado Music Educators Association.

C. Scott Hagler, who moved from Durango to Santa Fe several years ago, was born in Oklahoma and raised in Farmington, NM. In addition to his work with the Durango Choral Society, Hagler is the former Minister of Music and Arts at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Durango, Colorado, where, in addition to directing choirs and playing for services on Durango’s only tracker pipe organ, he oversaw the Sacred Arts Festival, the Durango Bach Festival, the Durango Chamber Music Festival, and an annual four-recital series. As a Visiting Instructor in the Fort Lewis College Department of Music, Hagler has taught piano and organ, and accompanied dozens of music majors.

Before his 2004 move to Durango, Hagler was Director of Music Ministries at Park Hill United Methodist Church in Denver, Conductor of the semi-professional handbell choir Rocky Mountain Ringers, and Principal Accompanist/Associate Conductor of the Arvada Center Chorale. A published arranger and composer, Hagler has written for choirs of children and adults, handbells, instrumental ensembles, and solo piano. He teaches at choral and handbell clinics, and serves as a choral clinician. He has accompanied numerous choirs and musicals around town, and was seen for two summers as pianist and entertainer at the Diamond Circle Melodrama. In conjunction with the Melodrama, Hagler released Ragtime!—a solo-piano CD of the music of Scott Joplin.

Hagler is an active member of the American Guild of Organists and the American Choral Directors Association.
