Watch Night Service

Worship, Dec 31, 5:30pm

VIDEO. We welcome Mr. Little V. West, Esq., to the pulpit to lead our Watch Night Service on New Year’s Eve at 5:30 pm. Watch Night has long been a sacred time of reflection and anticipation, dating back to December 31, 1862, when enslaved people gathered in hope on the eve of the Emancipation Proclamation. In that same spirit, we will honor the year past while looking faithfully toward the future.

This year’s Watch Night Service will feature historic prayers for freedom, liberation, and justice and a sermon titled “Watching the Wheel,” drawing lessons from the Prophet Ezekiel’s vision as we experience turns and changes on the road to justice.

Join us in the sanctuary or via livestream as we watch, wait, and move forward together.

Little V. West is an attorney in the Santa Fe office of Holland & Hart LLP and has been in the legal profession for 20 years. A descendant of slaves and sharecroppers in rural North Carolina, Little is currently the Chair of the New Mexico Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, a state agency dedicated to advancing Dr. King’s message of nonviolent social change throughout New Mexico. To accomplish this, the Commission works with state government, nonprofit organizations, and civic and community organizations to provide the programmatic and financial support.

Little is currently serving his second terms as both a Commissioner and as elected Chair of the Commission. In his law practice, Little counsels employers on compliance with labor and employment laws and regulations. Little also represents clients as a government affairs advocate, helping clients to achieve policy-based solutions.
