Dignity MIssion Update

Thank you!

Many thanks to all of you in the congregation who participated in filling the colorful plastic bags for the children in shelters. Thanks to many other churches 733 bags were sent to the border to make Christmas special for the children there. Our church sent 80 bags! And there are still ways for you to give.

Words often associated with the Hannukah and Christmas holiday seasons are dedication, hope, and love.  We frequently express these positive character traits and feelings through gift giving and that is how a group of Dignity Mission supporters and volunteers funneled their unselfish love and dedication into action to bring some comfort and joy to homeless asylum seekers along the US/Mexico border.

Teamwork was key and like the word itself, multiple elements came together to achieve a common goal. The gifts distributed were assembled in Placitas, Rio Rancho, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Los Alamos.  Thank you to the many volunteers who made and filled the gift bags and stockings, including All Saints Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, United Church of Los Alamos, First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe, and Las Placitas Presbyterian Church.

Dignity Mission volunteers will have transported 637 Dignity Kits, 450 blankets, 225 hats, 85 quilts, 66 pairs of gloves, 55 jackets, 274 pounds of beans, and 237 pounds of rice.

More Gifts Needed

Winter has made its appearance at the borderland with temperatures dropping into the 20s at night.  There is an urgent need for hats, gloves, jackets, socks, underwear, and blankets.  We encourage you to go to the following Amazon link to access our most recent “Wish List” and purchase any of these critically needed items and ship them directly to Dignity Mission, c/o Dr. Eva Moya, 6520 La Cadena Drive, El Paso, TX 79912.

Monetary donations are always welcome, and you can be assured we will use those donations to purchase what is most needed at locations and in quantities necessary to get the most “bang for the buck.”  Monetary donations can be made in one of two ways:

  1. A check written to Las Placitas Presbyterian Church with Dignity Mission noted in the memo line and mailed to Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 768, Placitas, NM 87043.
  2. On-line giving by going to www.lasplacitaschurch.org.  Click on “More” in the top right-hand corner of the Home Page, click on “GIVE” on the drop-down menu, click on “CLICK HERE TO GIVE”, click on the box next to Dignity Mission on the Donation page, enter an amount, frequency, and start date, and click on “Continue.”  Complete the form and submit.

We remain eternally grateful for your support and wish you the blessings of this holiday season.
