Pride Is About Finding and Making Community

Adult Ed, Begins May 31, 9:45am

This Sunday Tony Arnold presents the second class in a three part series to help us understand Pride and our LGBTQIA+ siblings. This class looks at the real (and often unmet) need for a truly inclusive community and how our church can be more welcoming, inclusive, and empowering.

We look more closely at LGBTQIA+ people’s need for inclusion, belonging, welcome, affirmation, empowerment, and loving community, as well as the roles that the Church can have in being community, family, and home for LGBTQIA+ people. Even when the Church has loved LGBTQIA+ people, it’s often been merely as tolerated guests or marginal members of the community. FPCSF is exploring how to grow beyond that.

This 3-part series is called “Love Must Win!: The Church and LGBTQIA+ Pride.” In the first class we learned why both God’s love and self-love need to be at the core of Pride both as a celebration and a movement. The third class on June 14th, looks at Pride as a struggle for justice and liberation.

Adult ed classes in this series will be held in the McFarland Chapel and via Zoom. Because of the nature of this adult ed series, the sessions will not be recorded, so be sure to be there in person or via Zoom. We all need to learn how to better express God’s love and our love for LGBTQIA+ folks.
